Campaign website

Landis' campaign website stated the following:

Job Creation and Economic Growth

Al Landis knows that jobs and the economy are two vital issues that cannot be ignored in our area. He also knows that economic recovery starts with individuals and families. Ohio’s comeback begins with more jobs and fewer taxes. Knowing this, Al fought to cut burdensome regulations on job creators in order to make Ohio more appealing for businesses. From there, he helped cut the staggering $8 billion deficit and balance the state budget while still managing to lower taxes for families. Al has used his time as State Representative to create policies that will put Ohioans back to work. In 2010 Ohio was faced with a massive deficit, too many East-Central Ohioans out of work, and a need for long-term solutions. Thanks in part to his service, Ohio is now at the top of the list for job creation in the Midwest, with a decreasing unemployment rate and a balanced budget. Al knows that there is more work to be done, and wants to continue his service to our community by putting families back to work and helping our great state become the economic force that it once was.

Oil and Natural Gas

As a 33 year veteran of the steel industry, Al knows firsthand how important blue-collar workers are within Ohio. Ohio has been blessed with the opportunity to become a leader in Oil and Natural Gas, which has the potential to create upwards of 200,000 jobs in Eastern Ohio alone. Energy jobs have great promise to help our district surge economically. While serving as a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources committee, he fought for landowners and businesses by bringing oil and natural gas jobs to Ohio, despite stiff opposition from some in Columbus. Al recognizes the need to harness this power while still keeping the water and the environment safe.

Helping Small Businesses

Small businesses are the heart of our community, and Al has fought to help them prosper. He helped reduce crippling regulations on our small businesses in order to keep jobs within our community while encouraging growth of these companies. Al also helped implement the Common Sense Initiative which removes government red tape making it easier for small businesses to operate. He has worked to create a climate which attracts new businesses and offers incentives to bring jobs back from overseas to our state where they rightfully belong. Al is working to make Ohio more competitive on the national and the global stage.

Commitment to Community

Al is a lifelong resident of our area. He was raised here, worked here, and raised his family here. He’s been dedicated to improving our district, and wants to continue giving back to the area and people that he loves. Al knows that we deserve a full-time State Representative, not a politician looking to advance their political career. Al is committed to being an honest and hardworking representative of our area in the state legislature. He will not be persuaded or influenced by special interest and will fight for the interests of the residents of Tuscarawas and Holmes Counties.

Education

Al understands that we need a strong public sector. In order to achieve that, we need a strong private sector, which we do not have. Under previous administrations we lost over 400,000 jobs in Ohio. Al is committed to rebuilding the private sector; this begins with a strong public education system. Al knows that job creators need a skilled workforce. That is why he will work to allow decisions about our children’s education to be made by parents and teachers, not a government bureaucrat.[11]
